Abstract

In strict debate with the philosophical tradition, Lacan repeatedly raises a radical questioning of the ontological dimension within psychoanalysis, relative to the constitution of the subject, the referencing of the unconscious, and the delimitation of clinical practice. Examining the nuances of this questioning is necessary to detect the delineation of Lacan’s ontological problematic and to extract its theoretical and clinical implications. To this end, we discuss its initial developments, profoundly influenced by Heidegger’s thought; the structuring ontological gap of the subject as lack-to-be, constituting the desiring dimension; and the discordance between being and knowledge. Lacan’s subversion aims to renew the problematic of the subject in psychoanalysis, unapproachable within the epistemological field, leading to an ontological tangency, which ultimately must be elaborated in an ethics.
