Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • A contribuição é original e inédita, e não está sendo avaliada para publicação por outra revista; caso contrário, deve-se justificar em "Comentários ao editor".
  • O arquivo da submissão está em formato Microsoft Word, OpenOffice ou RTF.
  • URLs para as referências foram informadas quando possível.
  • O texto está em espaço simples; usa uma fonte de 12-pontos; emprega itálico em vez de sublinhado (exceto em endereços URL); as figuras e tabelas estão inseridas no texto, não no final do documento na forma de anexos.
  • O texto segue os padrões de estilo e requisitos bibliográficos descritos em Diretrizes para Autores, na página Sobre a Revista.
  • Em caso de submissão a uma seção com avaliação pelos pares (ex.: artigos), as instruções disponíveis em Assegurando a avaliação pelos pares cega foram seguidas.

Author Guidelines

Requirements regarding the form and preparation of manuscripts

The requirements regarding the form and preparation of the manuscripts below apply in full to Brazilian and foreign authors.

- General rules

The article should be unpublished, both in print and digital.

Digital means an indexed paper/ISSN, either in some electronic journal or in congress minutes.

The paper must contain at least 10 pages (Times New Roman,12, single space, bibliography and abstracts included).

The subject must be pertinent and current in the area of interest of the work submitted.

The objectives must be clearly stated and the conclusion must contemplate the initial purposes.

The bibliography must be updated and demonstrate a deep knowledge of current research in the area.

Contributions that are only a reminder of the current stage of research will not be accepted.

Requirements for submissions Articles may be written in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Chinese and Japanese.

 

- File format:

The originals, in open Word format (doc, docx), should be typed with Times New Roman font size 12.

The right and left margins should respect the distance of at least 3 cm.

- Title, abstract and keywords:

The article should present the title and a short abstract of its content in the language in which it was written and in English.  

Abstract in Portuguese with 10 lines, and/or 125 words, and/or 855 characters (with spaces).

Abstract in English with 10 lines, and/or 125 words, and/or 855 characters (with spaces).

Right below the abstract, the key words should be indicated (between three and six).

These keywords should follow the language in which the abstracts were written.

Requirements for publication

- Standard of references :

The Modernos & Contemporâneos journal follows the technical standards determined by the Chicago Author-Date Style.

Therefore, the text, once accepted for publication, should be standardized as provided below:

- Citations:

The citation should always be inserted next to the cited text - and not in the footnote - in curved parentheses and present the author's last name, the year of publication of the work and the page; these elements should be separated by a space.

Example :  (Soares, 2012, p.23)

If the original source does not indicate the date, the acronym n.d. can be used instead, remaining (Author n.d.).

If the date of the original source can be established by approximation, an approximate date can be indicated, remaining (Author [2001?]).

- Bibliographical Reference

The works referred to in the text must be listed in the Bibliographical Reference.

This must come at the end of the text, and not as a footnote, adopting the formats required by the Chicago Author

-Data Style

- Formats for books:

*With 1 author:Last name, First name(s). Year. Title. Edition number. Place of publication: Editor.Note: The edition number should be indicated, except if it is the 1st edition.

Example:Sommerville, Ian. 2011.Software engineering. 9th ed. Boston: Pearson.

*With 2 or more authors:

Last name, First name(s), Surname. Year. Title: Pearson.

*With 2 or more authors:Last name, First name(s), Last name. Collection. Place of publication: Editor.

Exemple : Barros, Helena Maria e Joaquim Francisco de Azevedo Figueiras. 2010. Tables and abacus for the sizing of concrete sections requested for bending and axial forces according to Eurocode 2. Collection Technical Documents. Porto: FEUPedições.

*Book title: Last name, First name(s). Year. "Chapter title. In Book title, series of pages. Place of publication: Editor.

- Format for scientific journal articles (print or electronic): Last name, First name(s). Year. "Title. Title of magazine volume (issue): series of pages. Date of access. doi: or URL.

- Format for Theses and Dissertations: Last name, First name(s). Year. "Title. Type of thesis, Faculty, University. Date of access. URL.

- Other reference standards It is noted that when a research group or the scientific community adopts another reference standard - which may notably occur with so-called "classical" works - this standard will be adopted in the text, provided it is internationally recognized, but secondary references remain in the Chicago Author

-Date Style standard. In addition, the author must create a note describing this reference standard.
