The Geometry: A presentation
Abstract
The present text aims to make a presentation of The Geometry - and thus to support its reading and comprehension - work whose translation to Portuguese we have recently published together with the translation (done by colleagues) of the other texts published by Descartes in 1637, the Discourse on the Method and the other two methodological essays, The Optics and The Meteorology. To this end, the article brings elements and discussions concerning its history and composition, its division and structure, its constituent problems and its articulations, as well as questions of mathematical history and methodological and conceptual repercussions within Cartesian thought in its whole.
