Abstract

We aim to present in this article an analysis about the testimonial literature. Such literature deals with the testimonies about the Nazi massacre and is constituted from the memories of the survivors of the Shoah, popularly known as holocaust, which was the massacre of the Jewish people perpetrated by Nazi Germany in the infamous concentration camps (Lager). Our paper will seek to follow the ambiguity regarding the founding category in the testimonies of Primo Levi (1919 – 1987), that is, the memory. In order to work on the problems encountered we will need to resort on Freud’s psychoanalytic theory, and later seek the meaning of Levi’s decantation (decantazione) method contained in the last book of the Auschwitz Trilogy: The Drowned and the Saved. We will have as a result of this investigation the meaning of testimony and memory as essential political categories.
