Abstract

This paper seeks to understand how an Eastern. Chinese cosmogony, that of the mythological cosmic egg, provides a foundation for philosophical and poetic
intuitions, as well as for the union of both in creative and transformative literary visions of human existence, brought to us by ancient and contemporary Chinese and Portuguese thinkers and poets. We walk with Laozi and Zhuangzi to meet one of the most beautiful love stories of transformation in China. We understand how important dreaming is in this Chinese philosophical view and we rely on poetic metamorphosis, also advocated by great Portuguese poets, such as Luís de Camões, Fernando Pessoa/ Alberto Caeiro or Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen to conclude with philosophical transformation brought by contemporary authors, be they António Caeiro or Wang Keping.
