Abstract

The goal of this article is to analyze the statements made by Fritjof Capra in the book The Tao of Physics about the fundamental unity of Eastern mystical
traditions and how such unity expresses ideas that twentieth-century physics defends about the fundamental nature of matter. In this sense, we will analyze the fundamental thesis of Capra’s work, the points of comparison that he points out as expressions of the same thought in the various oriental traditions chosen by him, and then focus our attention on Buddhism. After a critique of the way Capra reconstructs this religious tradition, we will present a possibility for a dialogue between Buddhism and physics that we believe is more promising than that made by Capra.

Keywords: Buddhism; Orient; science and religion.
