Abstract

Nishida Kitaro is best known for his writings on political philosophy and religion, mainly for his fundamental concepts such as pure experience, selfawakening, place, absolutely contradictory self-identity, as well as that of active intuition. However, few readers are able to understand to what extent these concepts could have something in common with the methods of the philosophy of science, namely, logical analysis and linguistic analysis. In this article, I expose how Nishida was notably inspired by mathematics and physics in order to build and then deepen his very important notion of “place”. Thus it will clearly appear that there is an unbroken affiliation of thought between Faraday, Maxwell, Einstein and Nishida.

Keywords: Nishida; physics; math; logic of the place.
