Abstract

Based on a text considered traditional and introductory to the theme of Advaita Vedānta, the Tattvabodhaḥ, this article aims to analyse the issue of non-duality (advaita), highlighting two essential elements for the effectiveness of the Upaniṣadic method: the qualification of the student (ādhikārin) for the study and the qualification of the teacher (śrotriya) for teaching. In relation to the latter, Śaṅkarāchārya reiterates his belonging to a teaching tradition, therefore, his prior submission to the very method he applies is imperative.
