Abstract

This article presents the essay “In the dreamers” dreamery: towards a conceptual history of dreams and the psychic apparatus” by Pierre-Henri Castel, contextualizing his intellectual project and analyzing the main theses defended. The objective is to discuss the challenges of its translation into Brazilian Portuguese and explore the relevance of Castel’s historical-critical approach to contemporary psychoanalytic debates, especially regarding dream theory and clinical practice in Brazil. The work examines how Castel proposes a critical genealogy of psychoanalytic theories of dreams, from Freud to contemporary authors, questioning both established orthodoxies and theoretical eclecticisms. The analysis highlights the originality of the neologism “dreamery” as a concept that articulates individual and collective dimensions of oneiric experience, as well as the contributions of this perspective to the Brazilian psychoanalytic field.

Keywords: Pierre-Henri Castel; Psychoanalysis; Dream; Conceptual History; Psychoanalytic Epistemology.
