Abstract

Taking part in a long tradition of Western philosophy, Descartes voiced for several times his suspicion regarding language’s accuracy in faithfully expressing thoughts. This precautious attitude, though, is not to be explained by an alleged discrepancy between language and the thoughts it expresses, but rather by its remarkable success in the accomplishment of this goal. The aim of this paper is to examine how Descartes registers in written form his relationship with the written words. This survey will be the means to indicate some elements present in the selfconstitution of the image of authorship in his work.
