Abstract

More than a geographical area, New World constitutes for Montaigne
an experience of time. Indians are seen from a great distance but are also close to
the Antique from the point of view of values. Interference between spatial and
historical distances allows projection of the problematic topic of modernity into
New World’s representation. New Land becomes a kind of theoretical laboratory
for questioning the present time and producing a conscious reading of time.
