Nietzsche and the transmutations of freedom

Abstract

This article follows the development of the Nietzschian criticism to the concept of free will and the moral practices associated to it. While deepening his critics to free will, Nietzsche develops a proper Nietzschian concept of freedom, experimentally built through many conceptual characters, who shed light on different aspects of the history of the ideals of freedom, and their possible reelaboration. In his highly revisionist version of freedom, Nietzsche makes it possible to the rethink freedom, no longer as a state of non-obstruction and rational control, but rather as an instinctive disposition that finances a value commitment orienting the political practice of freedom, going beyond the alternatives that circumscribed freedom to the sphere of “subjectivity”.
