Abstract

The diversity that constitutes the world encompasses various forms of existence and social and political organization. In this sense, drawing from a significant concept from ancient China, the contemporary Chinese philosopher Zhao Tingyang developed
a theory that can provide significant insights into how we can understand human rights through the lens of Chinese philosophy, history, and culture: the Tianxia theory. This article, stemming from a presentation at the IX Colloquium of Eastern Philosophy, briefly explores the connection of this theory to the notion of human rights.
Keyworlds: Confucianism, Daoism, humanity, coexistence, interrelatedness
