As funções simbólicas da consciência na fenomenologia do conhecimento de Ernst Cassirer

O artigo oferece um panorama geral das três funções simbólicas da consciência delineadas em estreita relação às partes do volume III (Fenomenologia do conhecimento) da Philosophie der symbolischen Formen (1929) de Ernst Cassirer: a função expressiva, a função representativa e a função significativa pura. Segundo Samantha Matherne (2021), essas três funções simbólicas específicas remetem a uma função da consciência em geral: a “representação” (Repräsentation). O problema é a falta de consenso na literatura especializada sobre a existência de um princípio único que deriva as formas simbólicas e suas respectivas funções, ou se Cassirer oferece satisfatoriamente uma validade intersubjetiva complementar para todas elas. À margem desse debate, mas não adentrando em seus pormenores, o objetivo deste artigo é investigar como as “modalidades” da “representação” se fazem presente no desenvolvimento fenomenológico do conhecimento, a saber, na percepção, na intuição e no conceito. A hipótese central sugere que a atividade livre do espírito designa uma pluralidade de formas simbólicas que podem ser compreendidas através de um fio condutor teleológico.
