Submissions

Author Guidelines

The text must be typed in Word (*.doc or *.docx), with 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font size 12 and justified paragraphs.

The text cannot contain the identification of any of the author(s). Such information must be sent in a separate file (full name of the author(s), institutional affiliation, city, state, country, e-mail), and must also be listed at the time of submission, when such information will be requested.

It is important to note that the author(s) are responsible for providing an updated email address, as this will be the communication channel between the Scientific-Editorial Committee and the authors, including for updates regarding the evaluation process. If the editors are unable to contact the authors if necessary, this will result in the rejection of the material for publication.

In the case of scientific articles, the manuscript must include a title, abstract and 3 to 6 keywords in three languages ​​(Portuguese, English and Spanish), followed by the text and ending with a description of the bibliographical references used. Graphic elements may also be included in the body of the text, if they are consistent with the argumentation used.

For reviews, the manuscript must include a title, bibliographical description of the reviewed work, text and bibliographical references used.

In the case of translations, the manuscript must follow the structure of the original text.

For interviews, the following script is considered: title, introduction/description of the context in which the interview took place, text of the interview consisting of each question, followed by their respective answers, bibliographical references (if the interviewer and/or interviewee used them).

GENERAL CRITERIA FOR TEXT FORMATTING:

ABSTRACT

The summary is a concise presentation of the relevant points of the article, and should be provided for both articles in the free section and those in the thematic section. It should contain a single paragraph of up to 640 characters with spaces, indicating the objective, method, results and main conclusion obtained by the document.

The summary should end with the disclosure of three to six keywords, separated by a full stop, that concatenate the main ideas raised by the text. Both must follow ABNT standards.

QUOTES

Literal transcriptions (direct quotations) used in the text and containing up to three lines must be enclosed in double quotation marks. Single quotation marks are used to indicate a citation within the citation.

Transcripts with more than three lines must be highlighted with a 4 cm indent from the left margin in font size 11, without quotation marks.

Indicators of deletion of part of the transcription and additions must be placed in parentheses.

The author-date-page number system is used in parentheses to identify the source of the citation: (Fulane, year, p. 1).

Authors are allowed to add information to citations when necessary. If necessary, indicate “emphasis in the original”, “our emphasis”, or equivalent, which will therefore present the following format: (Author, year, p. 1, our emphasis).

Citations of texts in a foreign language must be translated into Portuguese (or Spanish, if the article is written in Spanish) and do not need to be accompanied by the original (however, if the author chooses to include them, the original must appear in a footnote). In this case, it is mandatory to mention “our translation”, or equivalent, in the author-date system, which presents the following format: (Author, year, p. 1, our translation).

Citations of translations must include the name of the translator, when applicable, in the bibliographic references.

EXPLANATORY NOTES

These are used for comments, clarifications or explanations that cannot be included in the text, in addition to being the recommended space in case the author chooses to include the original of quotations that are in a foreign language and that he/she has translated. They must begin with Arabic numerals, with a single and consecutive numbering for the entire article.

ADDITIONAL ELEMENTS

Tables, graphs, figures, maps and charts must be presented in the text, with consecutive numbering, in Arabic numerals, each identified at the top by the term TABLE, CHART, GRAPH, MAP or FIGURE, followed by its order number. In the first line below these elements, their source must be indicated, in a reference that follows the author-date system if they have been taken in full from previously published materials, such as: (Author, year, p. 5). If they have been prepared by the authors, the following model must be used: Elaboreted by the author(s) (year).

Tables and charts should preferably be in object format and not inserted as figures in the text.

Since the publication is in color, it is not necessary to convert colored elements to shades of gray.

REFERENCES

The essential elements are author(s), title, subtitle (if applicable), edition, location, publisher, date of publication, pages and volumes (if applicable).

Throughout the article, references should appear with the surname of the author(s), date of publication and number of the page(s) consulted. If there is more than one work by the same author in the same year, use a, b, c immediately after the date. Example:

• In-text citation: (Fulane, 2007a, p. 1-2).
• Reference: Fulane, E. How to make references for Symbolic: the book. 2. ed. City: Publisher, 2007a.

At the end of the article, the works must be listed in alphabetical order, organized by the author's surname (without capital letters, only with the first letter of each surname capitalized). At the end of the article, the works must be listed in alphabetical order by the author's surname (in capital letters) and the city.

The organization of the references must follow the ABNT standards, according to the following model.

Works of any nature consulted online must necessarily present information about the electronic address, preceded by the expression “Available at:”, and the date of access to the document, preceded by the expression “Accessed on:”.

Attention: Simbólica is not responsible for the bibliographical references provided by the author(s). The correct insertion of the consulted sources is the sole responsibility of the author(s).

Notes

1) Articles must be submitted in full and fully revised form. The proofs will be reviewed by the editor(s) based on the text received, and the author(s) will be responsible for the original submitted.

2) All articles will be signed, reflecting the opinions of their authors and not necessarily those of the Editorial Committee or the journal, but the right of first publication will be granted to Simbólica if the manuscript is approved and published.

3) Manuscript submissions via email are not accepted.

5) Cases that have not been considered will be evaluated individually by Simbólica's Scientific-Editorial Committee.

ORCID REGISTRATION

As a way of standardizing authorship, the Editorial Committee of the Simbólica journal has made it mandatory to include the ORCID iD at the submission. After the first analysis, before the material is sent for evaluation, the editors will check whether the information about the authors (which includes the availability of the ORCID iD of each author) has been duly made available, so that manuscripts that do not have the ORCID informed in the system will be notified to include the identifier record.

Please note that when submitting an application, you must also provide information about your academic background and institutional affiliation (the higher education institution to which the researcher is currently affiliated, whether as a student, professor or research associate).
The ORCID identifier can be obtained free of charge at: https://orcid.org/register.
To obtain your ORCID iD, you must accept the ORCID iD submission standards and include the full URL, accompanied by the expression "https://", in your registration, right after the email (for example: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097). ORCID registration is mandatory for all authors.

ORIGINALITY STATEMENT

With each submission, a statement must be sent with the signature of the first author, attesting that the manuscript is original.

The letter must be filled out online [editable PDF], downloaded, signed, scanned and inserted in the 4th step of the submission, in the "Supplementary Documents" tab, when submitting the work. To fill it out, simply click on:  Declaration of Originality.

SECTION POLICIES

Simbólica - Journal of Philosophy of Culture and Interdisciplinary Studies accepts scientific texts that must be classified in one of the following sections:

Articles

Articles submitted for publication must be unpublished and contain a maximum of 50,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographical references and notes.

Simbólica only accepts scientific articles, that is, dissertation texts that are based on dialogical, clear and systematized argumentation for the treatment of a given problem and object of study. Scientific articles can also be described as the result of academic research and, therefore, follow the standards of rigor and scientificism that characterize productions of this magnitude, which includes the presentation of appropriate technical language, respect for conceptual frameworks, and a commitment to choosing good references.

Opinion articles will not be accepted.

Reviews

Simbólica publishes critical reviews, that is, those that are not content with describing the structure of the reviewed work, but that present a critical argument about it.

Critical reviews can be described as the type of scientific text that analyzes a work (generally recently published, or, at most, in the last 5 years) through a refined description of the elements that characterize it, concomitantly with the argumentation about its main ideas, which includes the insertion of arguments for or against what the reviewed work presents.

They must contain a maximum of 20,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographical references and notes. Reviews must present the complete reference of the analyzed work at the beginning of the text.

Descriptive reviews (which only describe the structure of the reviewed text) will not be accepted.

Interviews

Simbólica publishes interviews with notable philosophical interest, both from the interviewers and interviewees, as well as from the questions and answers obtained.

It is requested that an introduction be included before the text of the interview, containing general information about the interview (such as location and date), as well as, optionally, other information related to the reader's understanding of the topics discussed.

They must contain a maximum of 40,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographical references and notes.

Translations

Translations submitted to Simbólica must be unpublished and contain a maximum of 50,000 characters (with spaces), including bibliographical references and notes.

Upon submission, in addition to the file containing the translated text, the following must be submitted: 1) The original version of the manuscript, in order to be compared with the translation sent, to verify the reliability of the original material and the quality of the translation; 2) Authorization for translation, to be given by the copyright holder of the material (whether the author himself, if alive, the publisher, family members, or others). Failure to submit any of these documents will result in the translation being rejected for immediate publication.

General observations on section guidelines

When submitting, the author(s) must inform which section their text belongs to. It is up to the editors and reviewers to suggest changes, including taking into account the specificities of each section.

The review documents for each manuscript will be sent via the journal's system.

The author may or may not comply with the recommendations made by Simbólica's Scientific-Editorial Committee. However, publication in the journal is subject to such compliance.
