Dissonância: Critical Theory Journal

Critical Theory is a consolidated academic field in Brazil, producing debates about different themes and working as an intersection of different areas in academic research, such as philosophy, sociology, economy, psychoanalyses and history. It still lacked, however, a journal dedicated specifically to stimulate the debate about its own motives and issues. The aim of Dissonância:: Critical Theory Journal is to fill this gap, as a forum for debate and a publishing platform for current research on historical and contemporary issues.

When one asks what is Critical Theory, it is possible to answer in many different ways, presenting all the diverse senses of this expression along the history of philosophy and the humanities in general. As we understand them, the purpose of the different critical models is to point out the tendencies to overcome or resist existing forms of social domination. There is a specific time diagnosis and a specific critical model to each historical moment, to each interdisciplinary consortium, and often to each author who claims herself or himself as a critical theorist.

During the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21th century, new generations of researchers, not only from the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, but also from other institutes, universities and centers of research, have been producing research and time diagnoses either by actualizing existing critical models or by creating new ones.

Dissonância:: Critical Theory Journal intends to contribute to the discussion not only of the sense related to the interdisciplinary work done in the Institute for Social Research headed by Horkheimer in the first half of the last century, but also of all theoretical frameworks that produce time diagnoses and critiques of the existing social situation, instead of merely describing the given traits of capitalistic modern society.

The journal publishes double-blind peer-reviewed articles, invited essays, book reviews, translations, and interviews dealing with matters relevant to Critical Theory in a broad sense.
