About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Organized by the Neokantianism and Philosophy of Culture Research Group (CNPq) and the ANPOF’s eponymous WG, Simbólica – Journal of Philosophy of Culture and Interdisciplinary Studies aims to be a periodical publication that gives expression to this field of philosophy that, in recent decades, has emerged as having great potential both for philosophy itself and for interdisciplinary studies related to it.
Having as its starting point the Philosophy of Culture promoted by the Neokantian movement, often in dialogue with other philosophical currents of its time (especially Phenomenology and Philosophy of Life), Simbólica does not intend to limit itself only to this movement or to this historical period, but rather seeks to give space to the various thematizations of culture in philosophical and interdisciplinary investigations. Thus, Simbólica aims both at the historiographical work of philosophy and at contemporary discussions around culture.
Peer review process
Each submitted text will be evaluated by a reviewer and, in the event of an inconclusive or unfavorable opinion, it will be evaluated by a new reviewer. In the event of disagreement in the opinions, it will be sent to a third reviewer.
Manuscripts will be evaluated without identifying the author, in a blind evaluation system, in order to ensure anonymity during the evaluation process and research ethics.
The standard time for completing an evaluation is 60 (sixty) days, however, it may vary depending on the availability of the evaluators. However, this period may be extended due to the circumstances of each submitted work and the topic addressed.
After evaluating the materials, the evaluators may issue the following types of opinions: 1) Approved without corrections; 2) Approved with mandatory corrections; 3) Rejected for publication.
The aforementioned opinions will be assessed based on compliance with the following criteria: 1) Originality; 2) Clarity of argument; 3) Relevant and up-to-date references; 4) Mastery of the standard language of the publication; 5) Adequacy to the scope of the journal; 6) Adequacy to the formatting standards adopted by the journal; 7) Adequacy of the title, abstract and keywords in relation to the content.
The author may or may not comply with the recommendations made by Simbólica's Scientific-Editorial Committee. However, publication in the journal is subject to such compliance.
The gap between the submission of a text and its publication takes, on average, 6-12 months, a period that may vary depending on the evaluation, the availability of the reviewers and the time it takes the authors to comply with the evaluation recommendations, if any.
Therefore, the materials submitted to Simbólica will go through the following editorial processes: 1) Submission; 2) Forwarding of the scientific text to the reviewers (chosen according to their expertise and familiarity with the discussions raised); 3) Submission of the review; 4) Corrections made by the authors, following the review document (if applicable); 5) Submission of the corrected version of the material; 6) Provision of the corrected version for further review by the reviewers; 7) New submission of the review (final approval or rejection); 8) Editing; 9) Layout; 10) Publication.
Minimum qualifications for submitting texts
Simbólica accepts original submissions regardless of the author(s)' qualifications, as long as they meet the minimum quality requirements and fit within the thematic scope adopted by the journal.
Plagiarism
The citation of another person's text or argument without due mention, whether directly or indirectly, with or without bad faith, constitutes the crime of plagiarism, as provided for in the Plagiarism Law, No. 10.695, of July 1, 2003.
In order to avoid publishing texts that may constitute the crime, all texts approved for publication in Simbólica will be previously scanned in the Turnitin tool to check for possible plagiarism.
The identification of plagiarism will result in the Rejection of Publication of any material.
Reports of plagiarism can be sent to the e-mail: simbolic@unicamp.br.
Possible reports will be investigated following the procedures: 1) Receipt of the report; 2) Scanning of the text in the Turnitin anti-plagiarism program and via a simple Google search for checking purposes; 4) Confirmation or Invalidation of the complaint.
Anonymity
The names of the authors should not appear in the submitted material so as not to compromise the blind review process.
Just as the identity of the authors will not be known to the reviewers, information about them will not be made available, in order to obtain maximum transparency in the evaluations.
Language
Contributions in Portuguese, English, Spanish and French are accepted.
Originality
The submitted material must be original and unpublished and must not be submitted for evaluation in another journal at the same time as Simbólica.
If it is, it is mandatory to inform the name of the journal to which the material was submitted and the justifications concerning the submission to more than one journal.
Failure to notify may result in Rejection for Publication.
If the Scientific-Editorial Committee identifies that a submitted material has already been published in other media (even if this happened during the evaluation period of the material), the manuscript will be immediately considered rejected for publication.
