Abstract

This article investigates Adorno's treatment of Kant's moral philosophy in Negative Dialectics and the courses that served as preparation for this work, namely, Probleme der Moralphilosophie and Zur Lehre von der Geschichte und von der Freiheit. Adorno maintains an ambivalent relationship with Kant's moral theory, considering it at the same time as loaded with "internal contradictions" and as the "moral philosophy par excellence". The article takes as its main thread the criticism Adorno addresses to Kant, i.e. the fact that he tried to solve the antinomy of freedom and neglected the dialectics of freedom and non-freedom.After identifying the semantical displacements operated by Adorno, this article shows that it is by standing in relation to Kant that Adorno renews moral reflection.
