critique of free time in Adorno

Abstract

The present article aims to analyze the conference-essay Freizeit (free time) of Theodor Adorno in the light of sociological problems brought about by the consolidation process of capitalism as a hegemonic social formation in the decades following the end of World War II. The aim is to demonstrate the dialectical tensions inscribed in the constellation of concepts that gravitate around the critique of free time, relating them not only to Adorno's broader theoretical concerns, but also to the specific context in which the conference-essay was conceived.
